With school approaching soon, I have been awfully busy with my new job, summer tasks for my A-level subjects and some writing! Recently was the GCSEs Results day, in which I passed all my subjects and achieved the requirements to get into the sixth form I wanted to go to. I got 2 As and the rest are mostly Bs and Cs - I am so happy that all my hard work studying for the last 2 years has finally paid off! Although I didn't achieve the grades I was expecting on some subjects, I am still very proud of what I achieved :D

With all of this occurring, my new chapter in life is slowly unfolding. Honestly, with what I've worked on and what I achieved this summer has made me feel like a new person. I feel like, with my contributions to projects such as Sacred Zine Club and Adolescent Content, my creativity in writing as well as art has been boosted; with my new job at C and H Fabrics store, my confidence has been lifted and with my recent GCSE grades I can see my future in the distance!

Right now, I'm still working on building my skills, experience, confidence and contacts for networking and I hope that this will all lead to a promising future.

This is a short post but I kept it concise due to time :/ Hopefully, next week I'll show my newest art works I've done with a new art style I'm experimenting with!

I hope you enjoyed and have a great day everyone :D

Since exam season is coming up, I would like to share some of my advice for revision to help you be prepared, stay focused and do well in your upcoming exams!

When you think of exams, I assume your first thought would be stress because all your precious time are being used up, going through a topic over and over again to get it ingrained in your mind. I know, it's aggravating. But, honestly, you're going to need to get used to it if you want to do well in your exams!

To help you handle the stress you'll be feeling throughout exams season, I suggest meditation. Meditation is a wonderful practice that has many benefits. It will help you clear your mind, calm you down, relieve you of any anxiety or anger or even depression, make you more aware of your physical being and sharpen your focus. I believe practicing meditation is a necessity in life and practicing it daily will keep you mentally and physically healthy - so meditating on a daily basis, perhaps during your breaks or in the mornings, will help you stay focused and mentally prepared for your exams!

I like to use this app called Stop, Breathe and Think. I've been using the app to meditate for about a week or two now and I've noticed a big difference! Before I discovered it, I've been having small panic attacks (mainly because I was hella nervous for my final drama performance) and because of that I wasn't able to focus on my studies and I kept procrastinating. But using this app has made me so calm and it had a positive impact on my performance in my drama exam!

Another way to revise well is to be organised. Before starting your revision, first make a list of the subjects that you need to study in order with your weakest subject at the top. This will help you determine which subjects you need to study the most and will therefore save you a lot of time.

Once you have made your list, you can create a revision timetable. Add the subjects you're revising in the time that's appropriate for you with breaks in between. Make sure you're studying at least 3 hours a day - over working yourself will only make you more stressed and tired. And, have at least a day off from revising. You can't just spend all your time revising - have some fun every once in a while (but not too much)!

An example: my revision timetable c:

Organisation is key to revising well!

Studying in a quiet place is best for your revision. This will keep you focused on your work without distractions. One good example of a quiet place to revise in is the library - they even have the books and resources you may need for revision!

Revising in the same environment as the environment of the exam you're taking will help you improve your memory. So I suggest going to the library is best if you want to do well!

Get the right textbooks. If you're doing GCSE's, it's best to know what exam board your subject is from so you can get the right textbook to study from. Revising with the correct books will familiarise you with what kind of questions they'll have in the exam and the recommended exam technique to use to gain full marks.

For example, Religious studies is from the exam board Edexcel. Getting a textbook from Edexcel would be useful because it contains the exam technique to use, what kind of question they'll be asking and all the information you need to learn for the exam and the units to study.

Organise your revision notes in a binder. Doing this will make revising much easier, quicker and less stressful as everything you need to know is all in one place. And organising the notes to its correct topic or subject will make it easier for when you need to refer back to something!

Last but not least, talk to your teachers. If you're stuck on a particular part of the subject, then always ask your teachers for help and guidance! You can come to them at lunchtimes or after school and ask them for individual tutoring or past papers or advice for the exam!

I hope you find this helpful and if you have any other tips and advice for revising well, then please feel free to share them!

If you also have further questions or you want more advice, feel free to drop a message here.

Special Update

I would like to announce that I have a post up on Natalie's blog! It's about my passion for art and I would really love it if you checked it out!

Hey!

So, on Thursday 12th and Friday 13th I just had my art exam! It was a stressful week since I came back from a french immersion trip on Monday and I had to catch up on my missed work and revision for other upcoming exams and had to prepare for my art exam too.

Here are my finished pieces:

First final piece:

Second final piece:

My first final piece is a graphics piece with some acrylic painting and drawing. I originally printed it on a canvas and was planning to work from there, but my teacher told me that the canvas print looked beautiful on its own, so he instead gave me several colour photocopies to me :D

My second final piece is a photograph/drawing/watercolour painting/collage piece. I'm not really sure of the meaning behind since I just made it up along the way ':D

But I was trying to show a contrast between the two pieces: one being a happy, dreamlike piece and the other a dark, negative piece.

I like the second final but I'm not really sure about the first one. I was having a hard time deciding whether to work on the canvas or on the photocopy and I experimented with the different photocopies but I didn't like any of them :/ so I instead just randomly made it up as I was running out of time.

Finally finished by 10 hour art exam which I had on Thursday and Friday and I am relieved and proud! I papier mache a mask onto a canvas, painted it and then stuck flowers and petals on it so there's a contrast between black and white and multi-coloured.

Here is a picture of my final design which I took from my Instagram:

To the left is my second final design which I did in the exam and the to the right is my first which I did at home. They're both papier mache and on a canvas. I used acrylic paint to paint them and PVA glue to stick the flowers and the wrapping paper.

I should've added more of the drip-down effect at the bottom so it's more even but overall I am very proud!

Here are some studies I started for my 'Disguise' art project:

The top left is a 'faceless' portrait of me, the idea inspired by the artist Gideon Rubin.
The one beside it is an Ariana Grande portrait covered and splattered in grey, black and white paint (powder I think) which was inspired by Januz Miralles.
Below is my still life drawing of a mask.

I am going to work on some photography today and maybe some tomorrow :)

PAINTING TIPS AND ADVICE:

I am not a professional nor did get any training but these are some tips and advice which I learned from my mistakes, my peers and teachers.

  • So, first things first, before you start painting, make sure you do an outline of what you are about to paint or else you'll make a mistake an may have to start again!
  • Build up the colour, especially if you are doing watercolour and even when you're doing any art with colour. If you are doing watercolour, start out light with your paint being a low opacity (but don't add too much water or your paper will crease) and then slowly build up the colour until you get your desired result.
  • When painting, start with a light colour (e.g white), so there's lesser chance you'll make a mistake. Because if you start with a dark colour like black and you make a mistake, you can't go back. But if you start with a light colour and you make a mistake, then you can just paint over that with a dark colour.
Soo, these are my painting tips and advice. Hope you find these helpful and if you have questions you need further help, then you may inbox me here c:
Remember, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL and I don't know if it's the proper way but this is how I paint.
